Undercover Boss: Woman bursts into tears after £40k gift from CEO to pay medical bills | Personal Finance | Finance

A man has gifted the equivalent of £40,000 to one of his workers, with the majority of it being reserved to pay for their family’s medical bills.

Greg Miller, the CEO of the Larry H Miller Group of Companies and co-owner of the NBA team Utah Jazz, appeared on the thirteenth episode of the program’s fifth season.

During his time on Undercover Boss, the chief executive officer went incognito as “Mark” to observe the day-to-day operations of his company.

“Mark” met Amber, who was the second boss he shadowed, a member of the Interactive Team who helps with hyping fans up during games.

Impressed by her work ethic, Mr Miller spoke to her one-on-one to learn more about her.

‌Amber shared that she has a brother with Down’s Syndrome and another brother who was placed in a coma after an accident and has not been the same since.

She explained: “I have a little four-year-old brother who is just the light of all of our little world.

“His name’s Cam. He has Down’s Syndrome so that was really really hard on my mom at first and it was kind of a shock to everybody.

“My other sibling and I were very close. He actually got hit by a car and had to be life flighted to hospital and was in a coma for two weeks.

“He kind of lost a little bit of his personality. He’s definitely a different person. He’s just kind of 21 trapped in a 14-year-old mindset.”

Her mother is still paying the medical bills from his tragedy seven years after the car accident took place.

Upon learning about Amber’s family’s plight, Mr Miller decided to help them out with their medical bills.

Revealing his identity to her towards the end of the episode, he said: “You mentioned your family has been through some medical challenges.

“I’d like to help you with that. I’d like to give you $30,000 (£24,044.10) to pay your medical bills.”

In response, Amber burst into tears and asked the Undercover Boss if her making a joke which he reassured her he was not.

Amber added: “I just don’t really know what to say. That would take a lot of stress off my mum which would be really amazing.”

However, the CEO was not done with offering financial support to Amber and her family and decided to gift her an additional $20,000 (£16,029.40) for being a “great employee”.

With both gifts combined, Amber received $50,000 (£40,073.50) from Mr Miller while appearing on the CBS show.

She said: “It just doesn’t seem real. My mum is gonna freak out.

“This experience has taught me not to lose faith in humanity, that there really aren’t good people out there.”

Episodes of Undercover Boss are available to watch online on CBS’s website and on Channel 4.
