Argos recently announced its plans to close a total of 100 stores across the UK between this year and 2024, although only a few locations have been confirmed.
This is part of its plan to move away from the high street and focus on opening new stores within supermarkets.
Luckily, some affected areas will have new Argos stores opening inside Sainsbury’s nearby, such as the one in Grimsby and in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire.
Despite closing 37 branches so far, the retailer has opened 25 new sites inside Sainsbury’s stores since the beginning of the year.
Similarly, other UK retailers including Asda, Iceland, Habitat and New Look, are also shutting down stores this summer.
Communications adviser at Poundland, Nick Agarwal, told Express.co.uk: “Sadly from time to time a store closes for a number of different reasons.
“Sometimes that’s because we’re relocating to a bigger unit where we can offer more (eg our new Ipswich store which will open this summer).
“Sometimes to consolidate in an exiting store that’s close by (eg Southport) and in some instances our lease expires and much to our disappointment, the landlord has other plans for that location (eg Kings Lynn and Stoke).”
