Henry Cavill’s spy movie Argylle hits cinemas this weekend and the trailer for his next action movie has now landed, reuniting the Superman star with director Guy Richie, almost a decade on from The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
The 40-year-old actor (who’s a bookies’ favourite for the new 007) may have lost out to Daniel Craig for Casino Royale, but just like Argylle, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare has a James Bond connection too.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “Based upon recently declassified files of the British War Department and inspired by true events, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an action-comedy that tells the story of the first-ever special forces organization formed during WWII by UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a small group of military officials including [future James Bond] author Ian Fleming.
“The top-secret combat unit, composed of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, goes on a daring mission against the Nazis using entirely unconventional and utterly “ungentlemanly” fighting techniques.
“Ultimately their audacious approach changed the course of the war and laid the foundation for the British SAS and modern Black Ops warfare.”
The film, based on Damien Lewis’ book Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII, stars Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusanmokun, Henrique Zaga, Til Schweiger, with Henry Golding, and Cary Elwes.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare hits cinemas on April 19, 2024.
