Dune 2’s Austin Butler U-turns on next James Bond comments ‘What was I thinking’ | Films | Entertainment

After his Oscar-nominated role as Elvis Presley, Austin Butler stars as the villainous Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in Dune 2 this weekend.

The 30-year-old rising star of Master of the Air is certainly having his moment, but what about his chances of playing the next James Bond now the role is vacant?

After all, he’s certainly got the looks and producer Michael G Wilson has said they’re looking for a man in his thirties.

During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show to promote Dune: Part Two, host Jimmy Fallon pulled up old footage of the actor confidently saying he could play 007.

In the archive Teen Vogue clip, a blonde-haired Butler said: “I could be the first American James Bond. I would do it with a British accent.”

Laughing at the old footage, Butler said: “That’s crazy. What was I thinking? I grew up loving James Bond…No, he’s gotta be British.”

While there’s never been an American Bond in the official 007 movies, not all of them have been British.

George Lazenby who replaced Sean Connery in his only Bond movie On Her Majesty’s Secret Service was an Australian model with no acting experience.

Additionally, Pierce Brosnan was born in the Republic of Ireland, so don’t expect the next Bond to be British for sure.
