Freaky Friday 2 confirmed with major cast members returning | Films | Entertainment

Freaky Friday, the iconic 2003 body-swap movie starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, is getting a sequel.

20 years after the movie’s release, it has been confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter that Freaky Friday 2 is happening.

The publication noted that both Curtis and Lohan are “expected to reprise their roles” as the mother-daughter duo Tess and Anna Coleman.

Freaky Friday 2’s script is being penned by Elyse Hollander who has previous IMDB credits on films It Was Romance and An Ode to Demons.

At the time of writing, the release date for Freaky Friday has not yet been announced. It is also unknown whether the picture will hit cinemas or be released on Disney Plus (as the franchise is owned by Disney).

Curtis recently spoke openly about Freaky Friday while promoting the final movie in her slasher series, Halloween Ends.

She explained: “Something really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said: ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made.'”

Lohan also recently spoke candidly about coming back to the franchise so many years later.

Lohan told The Times she and Curtis were “both open” to starring in a sequel.

“So, we’re leaving it in the hands that be,” she continued. “We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”

Freaky Friday was based on the 1972 Mary Rodgers novel of the same name. It earned an enormous $160 million at the box office on a meagre $26 million budget.
