Freddie Mercury’s crown goes on display for King Charles’s Coronation | Music | Entertainment

Freddie Mercury’s former fiancée Mary Austin inherited 50 percent of the late singer’s estate following his death in 1991. And since his parents have died this has risen to three-quarters, with the rest owned by his sister Kamara.

Yesterday his old flame, who lives in the rock star’s Garden Lodge Kensington mansion, announced she would be selling everything he left her apart from a few personal gifts. Among scrawled lyrics to hit Queen songs like We Are The Champions, precious artwork are costumes including the crown and robe Freddie wore at his last ever Queen concert at Knebworth in 1986.

The monarchial headgear is a replica of St Edward’s Crown, which will be used by the Archbishop of Canterbury to crown King Charles III on May 6 at Westminster Abbey. The Coronation crown has been used in this historic ceremony for a number of British Kings and Queens since it was created for King Charles II at the restoration of the monarchy in 1661.
