When makeup is applied correctly, it can do wonders to a woman’s face. However, there’s no point having a full makeup bag at home if you don’t know how to use it.
Rouge, also known as blush or blusher, is a product many women use to add a pop of colour to their faces.
Applied on the cheeks, it offers a youthful, healthy glow and can be subtle or dramatic, depending on your own personal taste.
You may have been applying blusher for years, but your application method may need some refining as you get older.
Shea Whitney, an influencer with 1.55 million subscribers on YouTube, shared a simple technique that can take years off a woman’s face.
In a video entitled “Nine GENIUS Ways to LOOK YOUNGER Than Your Age!”, the content creator told older ladies to ditch their usual blusher habits. The hack also works for contour.
Women are often told to apply blusher to the hollows of their cheeks while they are smiling, but according to Shea this may be ageing you prematurely.
She explained: “The problem is when you stop smiling – and most people don’t just walk around in life constantly smiling – we all just have a normal face.
“But when you stop smiling and let your face relax naturally, it just droops everything down and makes you look a lot older.”
She explained: “What you need to do when you’re applying your contour or your blush, don’t smile. You really just want to focus it up on the tops of your cheekbones.”
The makeup enthusiast told women to focus the product on the top of their face, under the eye and bringing it round. She said that this technique creates a “beautiful, lifted effect” in the face.
A makeup artist spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the perfect anti-ageing makeup look.
She took readers through how each staple product can be used to make the face look younger, although she emphasised the importance of having the right foundations – and not the makeup kind.
She said: “Hydration is key. Start with a serum infused with hyaluronic acid to make the skin super supple and hydrated! Follow with your favourite moisturiser.”
