Adults are advised to wear SPF30 or more
In-flight skin dryness
Flying can suck moisture from the skin as planes have at least 10 per cent less humidity in the atmosphere than a home environment. “Drink plenty of water before and during your travels to boost hydration, and use hydrating products on the day before, during and after travel,” says Kate Somerville, skin expert and founder of Kate Somerville Skincare.
Try: Kate Somerville Hydrakate Recharging Serum, £67, which quenches skin with peptides and hyaluronic acid. In flight, Aromatherapy Associates Hydration Boost Mist, £35, contains humectant rose water and calming niacinamide.

Mid-air sun damage
“When in transit, it can be tempting to assume you’ll be inside all day, whether in a car, on a train, or aboard a plane. But you’ll still be exposed to harmful UV rays via the windows, and on a plane you are thousands of feet closer to the sun,” says Kate.
Try: Starface Clear As Day SPF46, £18.99, a high protection facial sunscreen that won’t clog pores.

Make it a multitasker
Multitasking products mean you can leave some of your make-up bag at home. “A red lip is a bold statement, and may mean you can skip foundation and eyeshadow entirely,” says Vicky Tsai, founder of Tatcha. During the holiday, keep your skincare ritual the same day and night so you only have to bring a few items. Apply your day cream at night, and use one cleanser.
Try: Revlon ColorStay Suede Ink Lipstick in Feed the Flame, £9.99, a powerful orangey red with serious staying power.

Oil up
A multi-use oil that works from top to toe is a great travel companion. “Use it as a make-up remover, a facial moisturiser, to smooth and condition the hair, and on the body for a natural glow. Pick a facial rather than body oil,” says Grace Fodor, founder of Studio10 Beauty.
Try: Alpha-H Golden Haze Face Oil, £42.99, which is nourishing, contains antioxidants, and can be used on the face, body and hair.

The end of the mini
London City Airport recently ditched its 100ml liquid limit, allowing passengers to bring regular-sized beauty products on flights. With other airports looking to do the same next year, does this spell the end of the mini? It would certainly be good news for the environment. Prepare for the change and cut down your plastic waste when travelling. Solid forms of shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are now available.
Try: Lush Princess Peach Shower Jelly, £13, a deliciously scented solid body wash.

Calm down
“Our bodies were not designed for high altitudes, so it’s natural to feel a little uncomfortable when flying, but you can support yourself. Firstly, focus on your breath – if you slow your breath down, you’ll begin to relax. Next apply a calming scent to pressure points, massaging in a clockwise and anti-clockwise direction,” says Anita Kaushal, ayurvedic expert and co-founder of Mauli.
Try: Mauli Sleep Dharma Calm Balm, £44, which is scented with soothing clary sage, geranium and bergamot.

Scent to remember
Summer can be a time to build and capture new memories – and your scent can help. “If you’re travelling somewhere new, find a new scent before you go and you’ll have a scented memory bank for that location for years to come,” says Alex Oprey, product manager at Miller Harris.
Try: Miller Harris Hydra Figue, £95, a woody citrus with sea salt and fig.
