Kate Middleton’s ‘unpopular dress’ from 2015 receives mixed reviews

Kate, Princess of Wales, 41, attended the 100 Women in Hedge Funds gala dinner at the Victoria and Albert Museum back in 2015.

For this event, she wore a £2,660 “Alouette printed silk-gazar gown” from one of her favourite brands, Erdem, but it had mixed reviews from royal fans.

Even though she stuck with a British brand and one that she had worn before, the lavishly printed dress was much more outlandish than Kate’s normal outfits.

This garment, with its opulent silk finish and 1960s-inspired Japanese patterns, was emblematic of Erdem’s charming, feminine, and floral designs.

Pictures from the event were recently unearthed on social media, with @KatesyDatesy tweeting: “Finally remembered I wanted to post this. Another unpopular dress that I loved.”

Royal watcher @JenderellaO commented: “I love the bright print, but I’m not fond of the high waist. I think it cuts the look.”

Twitter user @Bisousxx agreed, saying: “It would’ve been better if she wore her hair up or pulled it back away from the face.

“There’s so much going on with the print and the long earrings. She didn’t need to add the hair to it.”

But royal fans like @Remisagoodboy loved it: “I actually adore this dress. Not many could carry it off, but Catherine looks lovely.”

In addition, @FairyQueane wrote: “A brilliant dress, stunning print, completely in keeping with the V&A oriental textile treasures inside where she was visiting.

“A dress that has to be seen in movement, the still photos look too rigid. Wholly artistic, just like Kate.”

Royal fan @meadows_carole commented: “I absolutely love this dress, I would love to see it upcycled as a midi length day dress.”

Social media account @messiecondo added: “I love this dress. It would be great to see her wear it again.” Another fan, @Marsali23 agreed: “This was a very pretty dress. I liked it a lot.”

Kate’s floral dress from 2015 is no longer in stock, but its description read: “The claret, cobalt-blue and cream floral print on Erdem’s ‘Alouette’ gown is inspired by 1960s Japanese graphics.

“Flawlessly cut from lustrous silk-gazar, this elegant piece is fitted at the bodice and flares below the waist into a voluminous peplum skirt. Show off the low V-back with an updo.”

At the time, the Princess accessorised the Ohana tulip-print gown with the late Queen Mother’s diamond and sapphire fringe earrings.

Kate also wore a diamond bracelet that is thought to have been a wedding gift from King Charles, as well as a £450 Anya Hindmarch “Maud” satin black clutch bag.
