Kent royals’ impressive tiara collection – including Princess Alexandra’s floral diadem

Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra and Prince Michael were born to the late Queen’s uncle, Prince George, Duke of Kent, and they were a huge support to the Queen during her lifetime. Edward and Alexandra remain working royals now, and sometimes members of the Kent family are required to support the monarch at royal events. Here are some of the tiaras they tend to turn to time and again.

Ogilvy Tiara

The Ogilvy Tiara has a romantic backstory as it was commissioned for Princess Alexandra by her late husband The Hon. Angus Ogilvy.

Floral hair accessories Alexandra had worn before her marriage were converted into a distinctly floral tiara.

The tiara can be worn with pearls or swapped out for sapphires or turquoise stones.

The diadem has been worn by brides at several royal weddings, including Princess Alexandra in 1963.

Prince Michael of Kent married Baroness Marie-Christine von Reibnitz in Vienna in 1978 and, after their ceremony, the new Princess Michael of Kent wore the diadem for the evening wedding reception.

Princess Michael’s daughter Lady Gabriella Windsor would follow suit, wearing the Kent City of London Fringe Tiara to her 2019 wedding.

The tiara has striking similarities to Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara, a kokoshnik-style diadem worn by then Princess Elizabeth when she married the Duke of Edinburgh in 1947.

Kent Pearl Fringe Tiara

The Kent Pearl Fringe Tiara was worn by Lady Helen Taylor, the daughter of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, to her wedding in 1992.

As a working royal, this particular tiara was often worn by the Duchess of Kent to formal engagements, as she did while attending an event at Claridge’s in 1988.

Like many of the tiaras in the royal collection, the Kent Pearl Fringe Tiara hails from the collection of Queen Mary, the same royal who introduced the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland and the Grand Duchess Vladimir tiaras to the British Royal Family.
