Lewis Capaldi breaks silence to cancel every tour date after Glastonbury | Music | Entertainment

Lewis Capaldi hit the Glastonbury Festival stage this weekend for the first time – but it was not the perfect experience for him.

The performer visibly struggled to perform his hit songs throughout the set, with the crowd beautifully filling in the gaps with their own singing.

He also suffered various tics from his Tourette’s syndrome while on stage. He was diagnosed with the illness for the first time in recent months.

The 26-year-old gratefully thanked the audience before leaving the stage at the end of his set.

He has now broken his silence on his social media accounts, where he confirmed he would be bringing his touring to an end for the “foreseeable future”.

Lewis wrote: “First of all thank you to Glastonbury for having me, for singing along when I needed it and for all the amazing messages afterwards. It really does mean the world.

“The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write, but I’m very sorry to let you know I’m going to be taking a break from touring for the foreseeable future.

“I used to be able to enjoy every second of shows like this and I’d hoped 3 weeks away would sort me out. but the truth is I’m still learning to adjust to the impact of my Tourette’s and n Saturday it became obvious that I need to spend much more time getting my mental and physical health in order, so can keep doing everything I love for a long time to come.”

Lewis added: “I know I’m incredibly fortunate to be able to take times out when others can’t and I’d like to thank my amazing family, friends, team, medical professionals and all of you who’ve been so supportive every step of the way through the good times and even more so during this part year when I’ve needed it more than ever.”

By bringing his touring to an end, Lewis will be bowing out of his headline slot at the Reading and Leeds festivals later this year.

The festival’s Twitter account has also sent support to the Scottish star.

“We’re gutted that Lewis Capaldi won’t be performing at R&L this year,” the festival said. “But health comes first and we wish him a speedy recovery. We’re working hard to book a replacement, stay tuned.”

The Before You Go singer previously cancelled his gigs leading up to his Glastonbury performance to help his voice recover in time.

At the end of his Glastonbury set he said: “Glastonbury, I’m really sorry. I’m a bit annoyed with myself. I feel like I’ll be taking another wee break over the next couple of weeks. So you probably won’t see much of me for the rest of the year, maybe even. But when I do come back and when I do see you, I hope you’re still up for watching us.”
