Meghan Markle news: Her Coronation absence was ‘devastating’, expert says

Royal fans have found Meghan Markle’s absence from King Charles’s Coronation “devastating” as they have been left wondering what kind of historic gown the Duchess would have arrived in.

Following the release of the Sussex’s Netflix documentary and Prince Harry’s memoir ‘Spare’, it was speculated if the Duke and Duchess would attend the Coronation celebrations.

However, Buckingham Palace announced in April that Meghan would remain in California alongside Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, but was “pleased to confirm” Harry would be attending the crowning ceremony.

Celebrity stylist and royal fashion expert Miranda Holder has said she missed Meghan at the event, as the Duchess is known to bring a special “X factor” to royal events.

She spoke with correspondent Jack Royston on Newsweek’s The Royal Report podcast about Meghan’s absence, and said: “From a purely fashion perspective, first and foremost, which is how I always approach things, it was devastating.”

Ms Holder has previously stated that Meghan brought some “Califonia cool” to the Crown, as she tended to wear glamorous chic outfits while also becoming known for her casual baseball cap, jeans and t-shirt looks.

She said: “Kate and Sophie and Princess Anne, they all made up for it and looked phenomenal. Camilla, of course, with her beautiful Bruce Oldfield gown, that was just absolutely exquisite,

“I thought. But it would have been just so fun to see what Meghan would have worn, and she would’ve just brought a little bit of extra X factor to the whole occasion.”

Ms Holder explained that the Royal Family was “so exciting” when there were more younger couples in senior positions within the family.

She said: “It was lovely having two young couples at the fore of the family, and they made it so exciting with their choices.

“I think we miss the ‘Fab Four’, I really do.”

The ‘Fab Four’ was the nickname given to Princess Kate, Prince William as well as Meghan and Harry when they were in working positions within the Royal Family.

The Coronation was the first time Harry was with his family since Spare was published, and Buckingham Palace has not released any statement concerning the allegations in the book.

The last time Meghan attended a royal event was in 2022 for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth, in which the Duchess dressed in a custom outfit by the English fashion designer Stella McCartney.

Ms Holder said that she “genuinely hopes” that the ‘Fab Four’ will one day be reunited.

She said: “I know that’s a little bit of a reach, but I was praying for tiaras [at the coronation] and I’m gonna pray for a reconciliation.”
