Princess Anne’s longest-serving earrings have ‘huge sentimental value’

Princess Anne, 73, has worn the same pair of earrings in her collection since the late 1960s when she was a teenager.

The Princess Royal, who is celebrating her 73rd birthday today, has worn these earrings at many significant moments during her lifetime, including her 1992 wedding and her father’s funeral.

Jewellery specialists at Steven Stone looked at the Princess Royal’s longest-lasting piece of jewellery as she celebrates her 73rd birthday.

The Grima Pearl Earrings, which were given to Princess Anne by her parents Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in the late 1960s, are her oldest pieces of jewellery.

The late Queen Elizabeth II owned a vast collection of pearl necklaces, which she wore for innumerable events and occasions. Pearls have long been associated with royalty.

Princess Anne has worn the Grima Pearl Earrings frequently, including several significant private events, such as her 1992 wedding to Timothy Laurence in Scotland.

Clearly, the late monarch was successful in passing along her love of pearls to her daughter.

The earrings were a particularly personal choice for Princess Anne, who wore them on her trip to London in September accompanying her mother’s coffin.

She also wore them during her appearance at St Paul’s Cathedral in 2022 as part of Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.

The earrings resemble another item in Anne’s collection, her stalactite brooch, in terms of shape, materials, and construction.

Zack Stone, the managing director at Steven Stone told Express.co.uk: “Designed by Andrew Grima, Princess Anne’s Grima Pearl Earrings constitute gold, pearl, and diamonds in a modern leaf design.

“They were gifted to her by her mother and father – Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip – in the late 1960s.

“The earrings are one of Princess Anne’s longest-serving pieces of jewellery and have huge sentimental value.

“Worn frequently at public appearances, the Princess most notably wore them on her first royal tour as an adult.

“She also wore them in Australia when she was with her mother at just 19 years old, and to her wedding to Timothy Laurence in 1992.

“More recently, the Princess Royal made the touching choice to wear them to Prince Philip’s funeral in 2021, as well as during her journey to London alongside her mother’s coffin last September.

“The retail price for a pair of earrings like Princess Anne’s would be at the top end of £3,000.”
