Royal news: We’ll see ‘a lot more’ of Sophie ‘in America’

Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, has been dubbed a “wild card” by a royal expert who thinks she will take on some duties in the US in the future.

The Duchess is the wife of Prince Edward, who was recently made the Duke of Edinburgh after his late father Prince Philip held the title. This means his wife, Sophie, a former PR worker, has become the Duchess of Edinburgh.

Nick Ede, a presenter and royal expert who regularly appears on GMB giving his take on the Royal Family, predicts Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh will make a lot more appearances in the US going forwards.

Nick told Express: “I think we saw this during the (Queen’s) funeral, but there is a wild card there, which is Sophie and I suspect we’ll probably see a lot more of her in America.”

He explained: “She’s such a safe pair of hands, and she has really shown herself to be a loving and interesting, caring woman.

“We might see more of her doing ambassadorial kind of work in the US.”

At the moment, Sophie has a number of roles and patronages representing King Charles. She is an advocate for Equality for Women and Women in the Workplace.

She has worked with the 100 Women in Finance, the Women’s Network Forum, and The Duke of Edinburgh Award’s Women in Business Committee.

She last visited the US in December last year, when she received an award. At the event in Washington, she was honoured alongside the First Lady of Ukraine, Olena Zelenska, for their work in advancing women’s rights at the 2022 Hillary Rodham Clinton Awards ceremony at Georgetown University on Monday.

It came shortly after Kate and William visited Bostin for the Earthshot Prize Awards.

Nick went on: “She’s very attractive. The kids are really beautiful and very English rose-style looking, and she seems to be like that, too.”

Sophie has been described as a “secret weapon” for the Royal Family by a source in Tatler. She was described as Queen Elizabeth II’s “favourite daughter-in-law” and a “savvy peacemaker”.

The speculation comes as Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, recently expressed her love for the US. She described America as her “home” and called herself an “Anglo-American”.

The Duchess spoke with Sherri Shephard on her daytime chat show. Sarah said: “I’m loving being home because I’m an Anglo-American.”

It is rumoured that Fergie’s daughter Princess Eugenie will move to the US with her husband Jack Brooksbank. The princess was spotted in LA recently amid the claims she will follow Prince Harry’s ‘Megxit’ with a US move.
