They will include links to fake websites where victims are duped into handing over personal or banking information.
Santander said in a response: “Great spot! It is indeed a scam message. Santander never send anything containing any links.”
The bank asked the Twitter user to forward the message to smishing@santander.co.uk “to help us put a stop to these kinds of messages”.
Another Twitter user, Anita G (@holidaylady021), recently contacted the bank to check if two 0800 phone numbers she had received calls from were legitimate and part of the bank.
She said: “Can you confirm whether the following are genuine Santander telephone numbers please?
“I’ve received calls from 0800 389 0755 asking me to ring 0800 085 1379. When I Google these numbers, there are mixed comments as to whether these are scam numbers.”
The bank responded to say both phone numbers were legitimate Santander UK numbers. They said: “If you call us back on the number on the back of your card, our team can check to see why you have been contacted and provide next steps.”

The bank urges people to do their research and be cautious when sending money to people they do not know.
