The Flash star Ezra Miller breaks silence on controversy at premiere | Films | Entertainment

Ezra Miller was arrested in early 2022 multiple times for assault and burglary. Since then, the non-binary actor – who uses they/them pronouns – has been absent from the public eye as the marketing campaign for The Flash has continued to hot up.

Miller couldn’t hide forever, though. And this week The Flash hits cinemas and promises to completely reinvent the DC Cinematic Universe with some time-bending multiverse antics.

To celebrate the movie’s arrival, Miller and the rest of the cast and crew attended a premiere in Hollywood overnight, where the actor was invited to introduce the movie for the first time.

Miller took to the stage with a microphone to thank the countless people working behind the scenes at DC Studios, before addressing the trouble they endured in the past year. (Via Deadline)

Miller referenced his recent controversies: “I want to thank the dynamic duo, [DC Studios’ CEO] Peter Safran and [Creative Director] James Gunn for your grace and discernment and care in the context of my life, and bringing this moment actually to fruition.”

Miller added: “And just the thousands of artists and workers who made this movie … everybody who supported us in our lives and in the world – and everybody who has supported me in my life in the world – along this decade-long trying and very beautiful peregrination.” (sic)

Before that, the actor praised The Flash director Andy Muschietti, saying: “I just want to say that I love you, maestro – I think you are amazing, and I think your work is monumental.”

They also gave a heartfelt thank you to Zack and Deborah Snyder, who introduced the star as Barry Allen for the first time in Batman V Superman.

Miller had a tough year, as they faced accusations of “grooming”.

Their representatives later gave a statement to Variety, saying: “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment.”

They went on: “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.” (sic)

The Flash director Muschietti also provided fans with an update on Miller and their state, saying: “We’re all hoping that they get better. [They’re] taking the steps to recovery, [they’re] dealing with mental health issues, but [they’re] well.”

He added: “We talked to them not too long ago, and [they’re] very committed to get better.”

The Flash hits cinemas tomorrow.
