Wedding guests leave bride ‘sad’ on her big day by wearing white gowns

Two wedding guests were outed by a furious bride after damning video evidence of them wearing white on her big day went viral. In a video posted on a fellow guest’s TikTok profile, a friend of the newlyweds said that it was “disrespectful” for people to dare to wear white. And many people agreed that they were wrong to have broken this unspoken style rule.

While it’s rarely, if ever, stated on wedding invitations, avoiding the colour white as a wedding guest is a custom many people are aware of.

Though a white shirt or trousers can often work when paired with other colours, women sporting the classic shade in the form of a dress is a big no-no for the wedding party.

But to one bride’s dismay, she found that not one, but two female guests had staged the fashion faux pas on her own big day.

In a video that quickly went viral on TikTok, fellow guest Isabella Santos Giha (@isabellasg3) captured the awkward moment.

Attracting more than 16 million views and upwards of 20,000 comments, the video showed one woman sitting down at a table wearing a long, boho-bride-style gown.

But it wasn’t the bride that was wearing the dress. In fact, it was just a guest who had chosen the outfit to attend the actual newlyweds’ big day.

Described as “a legit wedding dress”, the gown had bardot straps which brushed the woman’s shoulders, a low back, and white applique flowers to cover the plain fabric beneath it.

The tulle fabric used on the skirt made matters worse for the guest who was shamed for her peculiar choice of clothing.

A second guest who was pictured in a floor-length lace number was also pointed out in the video.

Isabella captioned the moment with: “Two girls wore white at my friend’s wedding. The bride got sad.”

While the guest looked less bridal than the woman sat down, the long gown still bore some resemblance to popular wedding styles.

She did, however, pair it with black heels and a sleek updo, both of which are lesser spotted accessories when it comes to a nuptial ceremony.

Nonetheless, angry viewers were quick to share their outrage over the guest styles.

Agreeing with Isabella’s urge for people to “never wear white at someone’s wedding” because it’s “disrespectful”, one person commented: “The nerve.”

Others took to the comments to share their own horror stories of wedding guests getting it wrong.

A woman wrote: “I didn’t know it was a thing until my mother-in-law tried to wear a white lace gown (I told her no when I saw it accidentally before the day…but then my aunt and cousin both wore white gowns anyway.”

A fellow TikTok user added: “My sister-in-law wore a white, off-the-shoulder a-line skirt. I was less than enthused.”

But while many people reflected on their own bad experiences, others shared crafty solutions for the unfortunate incident, with one TikTok user stating simply: “Red Wine.”

A second person revealed that that very remedy was used at their cousin’s wedding when the maid of honour took “tipped” the deep red drink on the offending guest.”

Some people, however, did note that it shouldn’t matter what others wear – as long as the bride is happy. One woman said: “Two people wore white to my wedding but I was confident that I’m more beautiful than anyone else because it was my day.”
