Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson, 81, ‘suffering from dementia’ weeks after wife’s death | Celebrity News | Showbiz & TV

Beach Boys’ Brian Wilson led tributes for his wife last month and now it’s been revealed that the hitmaker has dementia.

Representatives of the 81-year-old musician have confirmed he is suffering from dementia as his team requests that a conservatorship is set up to help treat the condition.

The news comes just weeks after Wilson’s wife of almost three decades, Melinda, passed away aged 77, on January 30.

It is said that she was taking care of his “daily living needs” and according to court documents, the conservatorship has been requested so there would be “no extreme changes to the household”.

The filing quotes a doctor stating that Wilson is “easily distracted, often even when aware of surroundings and its purpose”.

As the documents, which describe his “fear, depression and helplessness” as “severely inappropriate”, have been processed, a hearing will be held to determine if the conservatorship will be granted.

It has been reported that a hearing is currently scheduled for April 26, 2024.

The conservatorship request comes after the death of Wilson’s wife Melinda whom he had been married to since 1995.

She had a 16-year career as a commercial model before becoming a sales representative for a Cadillac dealership in Los Angeles.

It was then in 1986, while she was working at the dealership, that Melinda and Wilson met.

The Beach Boys star took to X, formerly known as Twitter, after her death, to announce the sad news.

He wrote: “My heart is broken. Melinda, my beloved wife of 28 years, passed away this morning. Our five children and I are just in tears.

“We are lost. Melinda was more than my wife. She was my savior.”
