Dune Part 2 trailer – First look at Elvis star Austin Butler and Florence Pugh | Films | Entertainment

Dune Part 2 will hit cinemas on November 3 this year, completing Denis Villeneuve’s epic Hollywood adaptation of Frank Herbert’s iconic novel.

As war builds, Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Aterides will complete his transformation into the most powerful man in the universe, with Zendaya as the Fremen warrior Chani by his side.

Rebecca Ferguson returns as his mother, Lady Jessica, alongside Josh Brolin’s loyal warrior Gurney Halleck and Javier Bardem’s Fremen leader Stilgar.

Their enemies are back in full force with Stellan Skarsgard’s Baron Vladimir Harkonnen and his brutish nephew Glossu Rabban.

But there are also a host of brand-new characters from the books that fans have been desperate to see brought to life.

The Harkonnen’s evil plans will be bolstered by the baron’s other nephew, with Elvis star Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, in the role infamously played by Sting in tiny gold pants in the 1984 big screen version. A stunning shot in the trailer gives a glimpse of his climactic confrontation with Paul from the books.

Only one important player is still missing. We will finally get to see Christopher Walken as the manipulative Emperor Shaddam IV in the film, but his appearance is still being held back for now. However, his daughter Princess Irulan, played by Florence Pugh, makes a powerful impression in the trailer and readers of the books know she will be a major rival (of sorts) to Chani.

Another star also makes her debut in the franchise, in a role that has been significantly expanded from the books.

Bond star Lea Seydoux plays Lady Margot, a Bene Gesserit who has a major role at the Emperor’s court. She appears in Frank Herbert’s 1964 novel but has a far larger role in the Prelude to Dune trilogy. Missing from the 1984 film, early revelations have confirmed that her involvement in all the Bene Gesserit wheelings and dealings has been beefed up for Dune Part Two.

As before, Charlotte Rampling also returns as Margot’s mistress, the spider at the centre of the web, the Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam.

The trailer shows all the pieces moving into position, with Paul first riding one of Arrakis’ sand worms before taking his place at the head of the Fremen armies.

The books have always explored Paul’s own doubts about becoming a messianic leader for a miraculous jihad that will rage across the known galaxy, and Dune Part 1 already hinted at it during the scene between Paul and his mother when they are buried in the sand after escaping the Harkonnen massacre.

In the new trailer, Jessica, now transformed by the use of spice, tells him: “We gave them something to hope for,” and he screams back, “That’s not hope!”

Fan hopes, however, are sky-high that Villeneuve will deliver a triumphant finale that some readers of the books have been waiting decades for.

DUNE PART IS OUT IN UK AND US CINEMAS ON NOVEMBER 3.
