Hot weather this week could cost Britons extra £670 as price of keeping cool surges | Personal Finance | Finance

The nation may be looking forward to a late summer heatwave this week but many Britons may have to fork out hundreds of pounds in extra costs to keep cool.

Britons would have to spend an extra £669.12 to buy the 10 most popular items for keeping cool during the hot weather, research from Credit Karma has found.

Costs for many of the items have shot up over the past year, with the cost of a free-standing fan increasing from £22.90 to £40.23 while a thermo-regulated water bottle now costs £20, up from £12.95.

The cost of a desk fan has also increased by over £5 and now costs £32, with the overall cost for the 10 most popular items up 17 percent compared to last year.

The latest weather forecasts show temperatures will reach 30C in the South and South East of the UK this week due to a rise in high pressure.
