John Lennon’s son unveils his casting choice for his father’s Beatles biopic | Films | Entertainment

Last month, four Beatles movie biopics for each member of the Fab Four were announced.

Sir Sam Mendes will direct all of the films which will overlap with each other, before they all hit cinemas across 2027.

Since the unprecedented news, fans have been speculating over just who will be cast as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

And now Lennon’s son with Yoko Ono, Sean Ono Lennon, has weighed in his opinion on who he’d like to play his father, who was murdered at just 40 in 1980.

Sean, who was supporting War Is Over!, which won the Best Animated Short Film Oscar, said: “I do think with someone as famous as my dad, it’s very hard to cast a film like that. There have been some very successful biopics about music people. La Vie en Rose was incredible. Ray was amazing. You can pull it off, and I think we’re gonna do a good job, so I’m excited.”

“I’m hoping that Emma Stone might consider it because she did such a good job in Poor Things. I think if you’re gonna reach that as an actor, the next obvious step is to really go for it and be John Lennon.”

Stone took home her second Best Actress Oscar at the age of just 35 on Sunday evening.

It may be a surprising choice in gender-swapping the role, but it’s not the first time this has happened. In 2007’s I’m Not There six actors played Bob Dylan including Cate Blanchett.

Asked about his involvement in the John Lennon biopic, Sean joked to Variety, “I’m the DP. I’m the grip. And I’m also catering, which you wouldn’t expect that, but I’ll be cooking up a storm.”
