Winning ticket in $1.58 billion Mega Millions jackpot sold in Florida

Store clerks who have faced long lotto lines recently can rejoice: The $1.58 billion Mega Millions jackpot has been won, game officials said.

And whoever bought the single winning ticket in Florida for the potential record-setting jackpot can be happy, too.

A single jackpot-winning ticket was sold, game officials said. The estimated $1.58 billion jackpot is around $783.3 million cash before taxes, it said.

If it is correct, the estimated jackpot would be the largest in the game’s almost 27-year history. A $1.537 billion jackpot was won in October 2018.

Tuesday’s winning numbers are 13-19-20-32-33 with the Mega Ball of 14.

The potential record-setting jackpot has been months in the making. The last time someone won the jackpot was April 18. In Mega Millions, as in the Powerball lottery game, jackpots roll over when no one wins.

The estimated $1.58 billion jackpot is the largest ever for Mega Millions, but it appears to be a close third-largest lottery jackpot in U.S. history overall.

A similar game, Powerball, has had top jackpots of $2.04 billion and $1.586 billion. Those were won last year with one ticket in California and in 2016 in a three-ticket division in three states, respectively.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 302,575,350.

The game is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
